What does the science fiction movie genre mean to you?

I like the science fiction movie genre, which takes viewers away from reality and into the future where things will be possible based on science. As I’m defining what sci-fi really means to me (and I like to share this with others), this isn’t just limited to future dystopian societies (The Matrix) or robotic battles (Transformers). It also includes space adventures (Star Wars), time travel (Back To The Future), and nightmarish science (Jurassic Park).
