Have a destination that was your favorite?? Was it in the States or abroad? I’d love to hear about where you had the most fun, best travel experience, or best new adventure!

Essentially, do you travel to sightsee, shop, adventure seek, etc? Are you interested in history, or culture, or just escaping your normal surroundings for something more interesting?

Laura M asked:
I would like to go trekking in Patagonia (Chile and Argentina) next year. I’ve never gone on an official tour (other than a few outings that lasted a few hours or half a day), but I enjoy traveling on my own. However, I question the safety of embarking on a jaunt like this by myself. I’m very fit and comfortable with hiking and camping but I don’t have any back-packing experience. So I’m thinking maybe a guided tour would be the right idea this time around.
Has anyone done any of the Patagonia adventure tours offered by REI? They’re ridiculously expensive, but I know it’s a good company and they have an excellent reputation.
Any feedback, suggestions, and particularly info from someone who’s taken one of the tours is much appreciated! My biggest hang-up is definitely the price. I usually travel on-the-cheap.

All I hear about from mothers on here is about sacrificing for their families and about how happy they are with their babies that they don’t need to go out and do things for themselves anymore.
I’m just not that type of person. Does anybody out there have a non-conventional family? Travel? Live abroad? Take the kids up the mountains? Is is possible to have a family and still travel and have adventures and do all the things that make my life worth living?
I’m really not prepared to give anything up to have a family, so I just wonder if it is possible to have it all. I wouldn’t want to risk resenting my kids, so I won’t have them if it means the end of my life.
Please don’t lecture me about being selfish. I’m just not suburban mom material, more safari mom digging wells in Ethiopia that sort of thing…
